What is the program?

This program gives students in all disciplines the foundational math skills needed in many professions, while providing more in-depth mathematical knowledge to students interested in science, engineering, technology and other math-focused areas.

What will I learn?

You’ll study subjects including arithmetic, geometry, algebra, calculus, statistics and other areas. You’ll learn organization, critical thinking, problem solving and the application of models to real-world problems.

What can I do with this course of study?

An associate degree in mathematics prepares you to pursue opportunities in technical fields, as a tutor or other math-focused entry-level jobs, or to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or related fields such as science, engineering, and information technology. A degree in mathematics can serve as a pathway to careers such as accountants, actuaries, cost estimators, financial managers, insurance underwriters, operations research analysts, educators or statisticians.

What's special about the program?

The SAC Mathematics Department has a reputation for producing students who are successful in programs at four-year colleges. SAC’s Math program offers small classes with experienced faculty members who are committed to student success. The Math Success Center is located in room 121 of McCreless Hall and offers walk-in tutoring for college and developmental level mathematics. It is open Monday - Thursday from 9 am – 7 pm. Students may also check out calculators for free by showing their student ID.
