What is the Education program?

The Education program is the starting point for certification and a career in teaching children from early childhood through high school.

What will I learn?

You’ll learn the foundations of education and the teaching profession while you complete the equivalent of the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Courses include an introduction to education, mathematics for teachers and education for special populations. You can choose one of three areas: early childhood – 6, grades 4-8 or Grades 8-12, or special education for early childhood through grade 12.

What can I do with this course of study?

This program will prepare you to transfer to a Texas public university. A four-year degree and teacher certification from the State of Texas is the pathway to a career as a teacher, school administrator, school counselor, coach and more.

What's special about this program?

You’ll participate in a 16-hour field experience, which will give you the opportunity to explore the teaching profession in a real-world setting. You can complete this degree fully online, and it’s transferable to all Texas public universities offering education degrees leading to teacher certification. By attending San Antonio College for two years before transferring to earn a bachelor’s degree, you’ll save thousands of dollars on university tuition.
